School Supplies Buying Tips

When I was a kid, purchasing school supplies meant we got a new notebook, a couple of pencils and pens, and a back pack. Nowadays, we need a laptop. Quite a bit more expensive!

Some schools are so cheap they will even ask you to buy your own tissue. It's one thing to buy them, but why do we have to carry them to school ourselves?

The first thing to do is to compile a complete list of all requested supplies. Then combine things. One teacher wants two dozen pencils and the other wants a dozen, you may be able to find larger packages of materials for less.

Always check different stores and make sure you aren't being ripped off. They will all say back to school sale, but you can bet that one store will have the lowest prices.

Go shop yourself instead of bring the kids along, because you won't be tempted to purchase more expensive supplies for their "cool" factor, and without a child to argue with the whole process is faster.

It's always a good idea to stock up on supplies but make sure you hide them from your kids or else they will lose, waste them all. Give it to them as needed or you can even say that you got them new.

I actually like to buy a lower quality backpack so I can change them every year. Kids love the new look, and I don't spend a bundle. It's personal preference, so do what your kids like.

Kids will graduate at some point and everything will be behind you. Don't skim on quality but don't overspend on things that don't last either. Kids are expensive but they are worth the money.

If you know many parents, you can shop together and save a bundle. Not only can you discuss what's truly important, you can also save by buying in larger quantities.
