Mini Laptops And You – Is It Worth Having One?
If you've looked at the new mini laptop in a store or watched a friend use one, chances are you're dreaming of purchasing one for yourself. Before you ditch your current laptop and throw out a few hundred dollars or more, make sure it is a sound investment that is going to really add something valuable to your life.
There are three main benefits to buying a mini. Obviously, it will be lighter weight and thus easier to carry around, but it is also more compact which makes it super portable. Also, you can carry it in a much smaller bag so it isn't as obvious to everyone on the street what you have with you.
Actually using the computer can also be more comfortable if you regularly use it at different points of your day or in different locations.
While this may be a great purchase for one person, it might not actually be worth the current expense for others. It really depends on your expectations and what you intend to use it for.
The first question is how much time you will spend really typing longer texts or messages on your mini. If you will be working on it or otherwise typing longer texts you want to ensure the keyboard is designed comfortably. Some on the market right now will not be very comfortable for a long typing session.
Second, will you be using it primarily for internet access and emailing? Many people use their laptop mostly for internet browsing or at least use it for this purpose on a regular basis. If this is you, then choosing a mini is just like picking out a regular laptop. Some will move faster than others depending on the processor and other features so choose wisely or you will spend way too much time waiting for pages to load.
Also, consider where you will most likely be using the internet. If your mini doesn't have Bluetooth capability you will only be able to log on at wifi points or at home with your own wifi network. If you want to ensure you can connect anytime and anywhere make sure your mini has Bluetooth compatibility.
As long as you really consider all of these points and select a model that fits within your expectations and intended usage, you may find a mini to be an excellent purchase right now. Unless you have a great need for something smaller, it probably is not worth trading in your current laptop just yet, especially if you really like the product you are currently using. For those already looking to switch it up, this could be a great option.
As always with electronics, you will likely find the best deals online but make sure to go into a store and play with display models before make a final purchase. This will ensure you are familiar with the style of mini laptop you select and that it will be comfortable for typing and all of your other intended uses. This is especially important if you haven't used a mini before or are less familiar with laptops in general.
