Cheap Laptops What Are My Options

Way back in the old days, about two or three years ago, even a cheap laptops sometimes cost more than a decent used car. If you needed more than just a basic laptop for basic needs, you were probably looking at the equivalent of $2-$3,000 which at best might have given you 2 gigs of RAM and a screaming video card.

How things have changed! You not only can find excellent buys in the under $750 range, these are pretty powerful models that do pretty much everything you could possibly want. Even these "cheap laptops" have at least 3 gigs of RAM usually, and most come equipped with build in web cams and wireless cards.

Even a more powerful laptop can still be had for about $600 - still pretty cheap in the scheme of things. Add a manufacture'rs rebate or a great sale, and you are definitely ahead of the game.

If you are indeed on a budget and $400 new is about your limit, that might not be a problem. These laptops usually have only a gig of RAM, but if you aren't interested in downloading music and videos and simply need some every day basics like checking email, sending photos of the kids, or updating your Facebook account, 1 gig of RAM is fine.

If you are shopping guru who refuses to pay full price for anything, you're in luck. Sales are all over the place for laptops in all price ranges. With the sales price and manufacturer's rebates, you can walk away with a real beauty for under $350 in the right place at the right time.

Also check places like Craigslist for used items. Again, there's nothing with these except the owners wanted new more powerful models for whatever reasons, and the ones they are selling are not only in excellent condition, they probably come with pretty cool software. NOTE: Most software actually should be completely removed from a hard drive before selling the computer; if the software stays, it is violating the original licensing agreement. However, most people don't pay any attention to this. You could very well find yourself a new, powerful computer loaded with the software you want and need - for no additional money.

If you aren't familiar with Craigslist, check it out. They have an entire section just for used electronics. These can be some fantastic deals, too, because usually people forget they are supposed to reformat their hard drives and delete any software they were using prior to selling the computer. You can frequently find used computer with some high end software, computer games, and god knows what else that might come in handy!
