What Type of Journal Should You Keep?

by Fabby W. Walsh

What does journaling make you think of? Does it make you think of a diary talking about your day, or is like a therapy for your feelings and emotions? Or maybe you use journaling to practice your writing? Journaling can be as simple or complex as you want to make it.

How you keep a journal and what you write in it is entirely up to you. We will discuss a few different types of journals that you might want to give a try. You can use any or all of them or any kind of variation of them. It's up to you!

First is to use it as a dream journal. A dream journal can mean several things. One way is to record all the dreams that you have as you sleep as soon as you wake up before you forget them. Dont worry if you dont remember any some nights. That just means you were in a deeper state of sleep for most of the night, or you just didnt find any of your dreams interesting.

Once youve recorded your dream, you can describe and discuss what you think it means in your life. If you get really into it, you can get a book or search online for more information on dream interpretation. It is a surprisingly interesting subject.

A dream journal can also be taken as a goals journal. What dreams have you had in your life? What dreams do you still have? Have any of your dreams come true? What goals do you have and how will you reach these goals to make your dreams come true.

Another way to journal is to write about what is happening in your life and what you do from day to day. This is a very common way to journal and a lot of people do it this one at least some of the time. It's a great way to learn a lot about yourself.

Third is to practice writing. If you are interested in creative writing, or any writing for that matter, keeping a journal is a great way to practice. Just keeping a journal about your life will help your writing, but if you want an extra boost to your creative writing skills, you can take it one step further.

You can use your journal to write stories or poems. You can practice writing dialogue or descriptive writing. Just use it in any way to practice either specific ways to write or writing in general.

The Benefits of Renting Computers

by Amy Nutt

Computer rental is something that both businesses and individuals may decide is a good idea for them. This is because there are certain advantages of renting a computer over buying one. Perhaps it is difficult for an individual to see how renting a computer can be beneficial compared to buying one, but that is about to change.

So what are the benefits of renting computers?

- More individuals are able to have computers within their homes when they are renting. They may not be able to pay a lump sum for a computer, so they pay a small monthly amount instead.

- Individuals unable to acquire financing will find that renting a computer works better for them. There are also rent to own options out there. They can rent it until they pay a certain amount. When that certain amount is reached, they then own the computer.

- When renting, individuals are able to trade in for newer models. This means that they can upgrade every year or two if they wish. When renting, there is no such thing as having an obsolete machine.

- For business, the business may find that renting is more affordable than purchasing, especially if they are not in need of the equipment for long periods of time. There are times in which a company may only need a computer for a short time. If that's the case, there is no need to buy, especially when the cost of renting will never reach the cost of buying.

Since we live in the day and age in which computers are a must, it is a necessity that homes and businesses have computers within them. At least now the server rental business has provided a solution for those who are credit challenged, financially challenged, and for those looking for a short-term solution.

As for the process that is used, credit checks are usually not required when renting. The only criteria are that there is an income, a job to get that income, a home address, a contact number, and a down payment on that rental. Sometimes, the rental company will check personal references to see how the person fares in the eyes of others in regards to reliability. Many individuals would not say a bad word about the person needing the rental, and others will decide that it is in their best interest to be honest. This helps the rental company make an informed decision about who to rent to and who not to rent to. That way they don't experience a loss.

After the computers are rented out to the renters, they simply pay based on the terms that are set forth for them. They may agree to pay on a monthly basis for the equipment. There are some instances in which they may pay based on another set of terms or pay in advance, so it is whatever is more comfortable for that individual. That is what is great about renting. You can always pay the way that you are comfortable. For the individual, it is beneficial to pay based on when they receive their paychecks. That way it is difficult to forget the payment since rental payments do not involve sending a bill or invoice.

All-in-all, renting computers can be quite superior to buying them. Another aspect of renting is that even when the warranty expires on the machine, you can have it serviced for as long as you're renting. This is because the computer is still the property of the rental company, so it is their responsibility to ensure that it is in working condition. That in itself is a great reason to rent.

How to Come Up with Journal Writing Topics

by Miles Z. Zookerman

If you are a journal writer, when you go to write in your journal, you do either one of two things or the other. The first may be that you are very excited to write and get started writing right away. You have a lot to right about and never run out of ideas.

If you are fortunate enough to feel this way, you are the other person. You have trouble getting started, maybe you can only get one line down, and sit lost and dazed.

If you are the second person, you probably experience frequent writer's block. The other person rarely experiences this, but even from time to time they do get a little writer's block. Having writer's block does not make you a bad writer.

When you are stuck on an idea or can't come up with an idea, this has nothing to do with your actual ability to write. If you can write beautifully when you have ideas and have a good imagination, all you have to do is get some backup ideas for those writer's block moments.

If you are stuck, start with a daily recap. What was your day like? What did you do? Did you meet anyone new? How were you feeling? When you are keeping a journal, you are discovering yourself and you practice your writing. Writing about your day will contribute to both.

Try writing about different feelings and thoughts that come to your head. Do you ever thing, "What if...?" Write about it. Do you ever hear an interesting conversation or story? Write about it. Be creative and write about any idea that ever pops in your head.

Embellish on either of these ideas. Write about what has been happening to you and what further meaning it has in your life. Write about a conversation you heard and what you thought was interesting about it. Try to see connections in different parts of your life.

If you are still having trouble, just let your creative juices flow. Don't think about it so much. Don't worry about getting it right. Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Read a magazine and write about it. When you hear a story, write about it. Be creative and let the juices flow and not hold you back.

Recycling Your Computer After Its Life Is Over

by Amy Nutt

Your computer has died, and there is no hope for its resurrection. You have already replaced it, but now what do you do? What options are there for disposing of your old computer in a safe and environmentally friendly way? The answer is computer recycling.

Why Recycling Computers Is Important

Computers and other consumer electronics items make up around two percent of all of the materials in todays landfills. We already know that recycling in general is important, as the landfills are not getting any smaller, but recycling computers and monitors is especially important. These items contain lead and toxic metals that can cause serious damage to the environment, particularly if they end up in the water supply.

Additionally, your computer contains personal information that you may not know how to completely remove. You do not want a computer guru finding it in the dumpster and taking your personal information off of it. This can lead to identity theft and a lifetime of problems.

Advantages of Recycling Your Computer

Recycling your computer responsibly carries many benefits. First, by working with a responsible recycler, you are ensured that your personal information is completely removed from the machine. This will protect you from dumpster divers who are just waiting to find a hard drive to tap into.

Another benefit of recycling your computer is the fact that you will be doing your part to protect the environment. You will be keeping the toxins that are in your computer out of the landfills and away from the water supply. Additionally, the precious metals and other materials used in these electronics must be mined, which takes a tremendous toll on the environment. By recycling your computer, you ensure that these precious materials are reused, reducing the amount that must be removed from the earth through costly mining efforts.

In many cases a recycled computer can actually be put to use again. Even if a major part of your computer is broken, there are other components that can be used to rebuild other computers. This can provide an affordable computer for an individual or organization that otherwise would not be able to access one. Often these computers are donated to charitable organizations, so in this way you could be helping the community simply by recycling your broken computer. When you choose a recycling center, choose one that works closely with a charitable organization.

How Computer Recycling Works

The first step in a responsible computer recycling program is wiping all information off of the computers hard drive. This ensures that your finances and personal information are protected. Then, the recycling program should look at the machine to see if there are any usable components. These are harvested to be used to build new machines. Any non-usable parts are broken down into their basic components, such as metal or plastic, and further processed.

The recycling center will then take these basic components and organize them according to the type they are. These parts will then be sent to a smelting facility to be turned into tiny pieces and melted to be made into other things. For instance, plastic can be melted and used again in another computer or for a completely different plastic item. As part of this process, the precious metals that are in circuit boards are extracted for reuse. This keeps them out of the environment.

Today, only 18 percent of all computers and other consumer electronics that have reached the end of their lives are recycled. This means that 1.84 million tons of this type of waste ends up in the landfills. By recycling your old computer, you can ensure that you do not add to this sad statistic.

Are You Ready For Colored Laptops?

by Theodore Cartman

One of the greatest innovations of the 20th century and beyond has been computers. We have seen them in the last 50 years transition from the bulky equipment that used to occupy huge research facilities to the smaller desktops that we see today. Personal computers have actually become a way of life not just for offices but for homes as well.

One reason is because they are convenient. Before laptops became the norm, personal computing used to confined to home desktop computers and one had to wait until they get to their office or home to complete computer tasks. But now one can carry their work with them and complete it even as they travel. This has made it possible for work to be completed faster and in a more professional way.

Laptop popularity has also been spiked by the fact that they have become media centers other than just workstations. This means that other than being used for official and business tasks, laptops are being used more and more for entertainment. People, who on the road now prefer to watch high resolution DVDs, listen to music and even share and edit their files using laptops. This has also resulted in laptop buyer market becoming younger.

To cater to this market of young hip laptop users and consumers, many laptop companies have become more innovative. Colored laptops have been the result. Laptop buyers, no longer have to agree to the old generic colors which were mostly black and grey. There is now a wide choice. So where can one buy a colored laptop?

Laptop builders have began to cater to a market that is increasingly exotic. That is why companies like Dell have already began allowing buyers to customize their purchases right from their site. Other companies such as Alienware also allow buyers to specify how they want their laptops to look like. While requesting buyers to specify what additional features they want is not an entirely new concept (Dell has been extending that privilege to its customers for a few years now)the ability to customize even the color is a new concept especially when it comes to laptops.

The colored laptop market has become increasingly flexible with many companies allowing their buyers to customize their purchases right from their websites. This has resulted in buyers being able to select from different colors other than just a few. Many other manufacturers accommodate orders for colored laptops. While the concept of customization is not entirely as new as we would imagine, ordering computers with different color schemes is a new concept. Different users of laptops have different preferences and these can extend to color. Color even speaks of personality and we can see this especially in ladies who gravitate towards all things pink. Cell phone manufactures awoke to this fact and have been producing color- specific phones for years but now laptop makers have also switched their mode and recognized that color preferences do matter.

One of Toshibas most Impressive Releases – Toshiba Tecra A10

by Matt Ryan

If you are looking for a computer that provides the same features and functionality as a desktop computer, but want a laptop instead, Toshibas Tecra A10 just might be the answer. The Tecra A10 was designed with the traveling business user in mind, but all users will be more than satisfied with this model. Whether you run your own business, travel, need a spare laptop around the house, or need a computer for your form room, you will find what you need in the Tecra A10.

When it comes to mid-range laptops, the Tecra A10 is comparative in size and price but above par with everything else. With measurements of 13 x 10.4 x 1.5-inches, and a weight of 6.2-pounds, there is no significant physical difference between this model and other laptops. MSRP is around $1,300, which is also directly competes with competitors. The Tecra A10 also offers a 15.4-inch widescreen monitor for pleasurable viewing experiences.

With an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 200GB HDD 7,200 rpm, and 4GM DDR2 SDRAM, the Tecra A10 offers performance like no other laptop. This - alone - is what rates this laptop at desktop speeds. For a laptop - and one that is not a gaming PC - the graphics card is pretty remarkable. It has an nVidia quadro FX graphics card with 256 MB of video RAM. Additionally, the laptop ships with Windows Vista Business 32/64-bit. (Media is shipped with the Tecra A10 to move to windows XP professional if you so desire.)

Wireless connectivity is easy with the multitude of connection options available: Bluetooth,?IEEE 802.11 n (draft),?IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b. All of these allow consumers to connect to the internet, from anywhere, and within todays standards. Bluetooth technology gives you the ability to communicate with all of your Bluetooth enabled devices, even a Bluetooth headset.

The Tecra A10 is EPA Energy Star compliant and has an ESATA (External Serial ATA port). Energy star compliance comes from the power management features that are up and ready as soon as you power on your new laptop. As for the ESATA port, this port allows you to transfer data at speeds much quicker than even a USB 2.0 port will support.

Many other features are found on the Tecra A10, like the built-in webcam and microphone and USB Sleep-and-Charge. Both of these features provide nothing but convenience to consumers, traveling or not. You can simply plug in a cell phone and the USB Sleep-and-Charge will charge your phone, even if the computer is not powered on. Many laptops - today - come with the webcam and microphone, which makes communication much more efficient when you are long distances from recipients.

The integration of Toshibas 4th-Gen EasyGuard Technology - along with a fingerprint reader - provides consumers with padded security. Not only is your data secured, but the 4th-Gen EasyGuard Technology also protects the Tecra A10 from falls and severe bumps as well.

Unfortunately, the battery life, on Tecras A10 default battery, is not as impressive as its specs. An average laptop battery only lasts a few hours anyway, but this particular battery will not compare to others. The purchase of an additional or larger battery is highly suggested.

When it comes to laptops, many of them appear to be the same. Some of the only differences are price and processor. The Tecra A10; however, does stand a bit above the crowd. As a matter-of-fact, it is more comparable to a desktop computer with its high quality performance. Regardless, the Tecra A10 is a great laptop, and it will exceed the expectations of many consumers.

Advantages of Renting Computer Equipment for Your Event

by Amy Nutt

Are you gearing up for a big event? Do you have the privilege of presenting your business at a convention or meeting? In these situations, carrying all of the electronic equipment you will need, including your computer, can create quite a hassle. One option to allow you to avoid this is to rent a computer. There are many advantages to renting computer equipment when facing a big event or presentation.

Saving Money

Renting your computer equipment for an event will save you money. You will not need to purchase some pieces that you only use for presentations, such as a projector or large screen. You also will have fewer repairs to pay for on your own equipment, because you will not be traveling with it from convention to convention.

Eliminating Hassle

Ask any business executive who has traveled with a computer and you will know that it is quite a hassle. Even just a simple laptop computer must be removed from its case, sent through security, and monitored closely during travel. The risk of theft is always present when traveling with electronics, and chances are your business computer has valuable information that you do not want to have fall into the wrong hands. Add other equipment to the mix, such as projectors, printers, or large monitors, and you are setting yourself up for a stressful trip. Renting computers eliminates this hassle.

Avoiding Setup Disasters

If you do travel with you computer equipment, you must set it up once you arrive. Any little wire that gets damaged or does not connect properly could create disaster for your presentation, making your company look unprofessional, and making the entire trip a waste. The company that you rent your equipment from will make sure it all works together properly. Are you trying to coordinate AV equipment with your computer and project? This can be difficult for the untrained individual, but when you rent the computer gear, the technical will make sure it is all working together properly so your presentation can be made without a glitch.

Using Better Equipment

Another advantage of renting equipment for a show or convention is the fact that you can use better equipment than you can probably afford to buy. You can do a projector rental or give your listeners their own computers with wide monitors. Are you presenting at a trade show booth? Imagine having your slideshow playing on a plasma screen. This makes your company look professional and prosperous, and renting the gear costs a mere fraction of what it would cost to buy it new.

Eliminating Wear and Tear on Your Own Gear

Your own computer equipment is already having plenty of wear and tear in your everyday work. When you start dragging it with you to conventions and trade shows, you are going to limit its lifespan significantly. Even if you take great care with your gear, simply setting it up and taking it down over and over is going to cause problems over the years. Renting equipment for events and meetings that occur outside of your office will help your own equipment to last longer.

Before you pack up your gear for your next convention or trade show, talk to a computer rental company. You will be pleasantly surprised at the affordable options renting computer equipment offers. By renting your computer equipment, you can travel without the hassle of keeping track of your own gear, arrive with equipment that is ready to go, and make your presentation in a poised, professional manner.
